Darmadodey Dharma Centre

Who we are

Darmadodey Foundation (officially registered as Darmadodey Choetshog or ‘Darmadodey Dharma Centre’) is a religious organization in Bhutan founded by Venerable Trulku Ngawang Jigme Namgyal in 2019. The Foundation, which is primarily based in Bumthang district, central Bhutan is a recognized and certified religious organization by the Royal Government of Bhutan.

First, just as the four pillars depicted on the Foundation’s official logo, one of the four pillars of Gross National Happiness (GNH) is ‘Preservation and Promotion of Culture’ in which religion forms as one of its main components. GNH is Bhutan’s main development philosophy today which was born out of far-sighted vision of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo of Bhutan, Jigme Singye Wangchuck. Therefore, it is our desire to contribute towards achieving this noble vision of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo as well as our Fifth Druk Gyalpo His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck who continues to adopt and promote this noble development philosophy.

The Foundation’s second objective is to contribute towards promoting and preserving Lord Buddha’s teachings now and for all times to come. We believe that in order for all living and sentient beings to live peacefully and in harmony, be it in any society, believing in one’s established religion and its beliefs is of paramount importance. Therefore, in case of our society where the teachings of Lord Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava has been taught, practiced and preserved for many centuries, it is our role to preserve further this Dharma practice in these spiritually degenerating times.

The third and the final objective of Darmadodey Foundation is to particularly preserve Dorjitse Monastery and its sacred relics and other religious itemsthat have been kept intact for hundreds of years. It has become very crucial, now more than ever, to preserve such sacred and priceless treasures for the overall benefit of all present and future sentient beings.

Currently, Darmadodey Foundation’s main project is the development of the Dorjitse Monastery and establishment of a Dharma Center there. Since 2018, Ven. Trulku established a small Dratshang at the Dorjitse monastery in 2018 and currently, we have already enrolled the first batch of 24 children mainly due to increasing requests from parents and guardians from nearby communities.
